Wrestling is an ancient martial art that uses grappling techniques such as clinch fighting, throws and takedowns, joint locks, pins and other grappling holds. A wrestling bout is a physical competition between two people, who attempt to gain and maintain a superior position. Wrestling is one of the oldest of martial arts with references to it as early as the Iliad that recounts the Trojan War in the 13th or 12th century BC. There are a wide range of styles with varying rules with both traditional and modern styles. Wrestling techniques have been incorporated into other martial arts as well as military hand-to-hand combat systems.
What Should You Expect in a Wrestling Class?
The wrestling classes in T45 Jiujitsu focus on bringing the match from feet to the floor, looking at modern Wrestling and Judo techniques that transfer directly into your Jiujitsu Game.
Taught by our head coach Ciaran, a wrestling class normally consists of a warm-up followed by techniques and exercises focused around a specific weekly topic. Expect a slightly higher intensity class with a lot of drilling and live practice.
Please note the following before attending the wrestling class at T45 Jiujitsu Cork:
- Arrive 5 minutes before the class is scheduled to start to allow for the sign-in process and to ensure you don’t miss the warm-up
- Trim your fingernails and toenails, remove piercings and ensure a high standard of personal hygiene
- Bring a big bottle of water (you’ll need it!) and a personal towel
