T45 win big at the IBJJF Europeans 2023

Competitors from T45 Jiujitsu traveled to Paris, France to attend IBJJF Gi Europeans 2023, where weeks of hard work was put to the test from white to black belt divisions

On the build up up to Euros T45’s competition team trained multiple times a week together, pushing themselves and improving their skills in all areas. Building well-rounded games in preparation for one of the highest attended tournaments on the competition calendar.

We are incredibly proud of our team that travelled to the Europeans with two silver medals coming back to Cork with us.

Tuesday – Blue Belts

Our  first competitor was the recently promoted blue belt Mattie stepped up in the Adult featherweight division (one of the largest divisions in the tournament with 68 competitors) on Tuesday. His first match started amazingly with a brilliant display of jiujitsu catching his opponent in a triangle. Unfortunately his opponent toughed the position out and managed to score a pass on Mattie which lead to him losing the match on a close score. This was Mattie’s first Europeans so we’re excited to see what he will do with a bit more time under his belt at blue belt level.

Friday – Black Belts

On Friday T45 Jiujitsu Cork’s head Coach Ciaran Brohan stepped up to his first major at black belt, getting knocked out in the qualifiers after a close match on points. Ciaran displayed some of his excellent 50/50 Guard with various leg attacks. Unfortunately he just wasn’t able to get the points back in time to get the win.

Saturday – White belts – Juvenile

On Saturday we had our final two competitors take to the mats. Peter won his semi final by armbar after scoring a quick points lead on his opponent, he was unlucky in finals losing via armbar against an game competitor. Maggie won her semi final by armbar from mount and was incredibly unlucky in the finals to not score for some of the sweeps she attempted. Both competitors took a silver medal home from their first IBJJF Europeans and we’re absolutely delighted for them.

All in it was a brilliant week at the IBJJF Europeans 2023, with some stellar performances across the board.

We’re excited to bring an even bigger team to the europeans in 2024.
